The Chefs de Cuisine of San Diego is proud to announce a new member of the Board of Directors as “Student Volunteer Coordinator” Neil Shepler.

Neil graduated from the National Culinary and Baking School in La Mesa, CA. Since graduation Neil has worked at USD, The Vine, and as a team leader for the Taste the Fun at the San Diego County Fair. Since joining the chefs association, Neil has volunteered for more than 30 club sponsored events. Through contacts made in the association and the community Neil is now the co-owner of “A Village Crossroads”.
Neil’s goal as Student Volunteer Coordinator is to assist student members to realize their dreams in the culinary field, and take part in the wonderful opportunities the association and its events has to offer. Please join us in welcoming him to the board. He will be in contact over the next few weeks in regards to upcoming events and volunteer opportunities.

A few of the board members and some friends had lunch at SOAR with Michel Escoffier the great grandson of  Auguste Escoffier ( the father of modern cuisine as we know it today). Chefs de Cuisine of San Diego inducts a record number of student culinarians.

WHAT:    The Chefs de Cuisine Association of San Diego inducted a record-breaking number of student culinarians at its meeting on April 18th 2010.
This is an unprecedented level of student involvement within the American Culinary Federation.


WHY:      Tthe Chefs de Cuisine will be hosting different charity and special events during the year that require student culinarians to help with food prep and maintain professional standards in a busy public atmosphere. Earning their membership in the Chefs de Cuisine Association through in-kind service, the students gain practical resume-building experience while boosting the mission and energy of the 501(c)3 non-profit Chefs de Cuisine Association.

WHO:      With a mission to promote cuisine and offer professional educational opportunities for its member chefs, the Chefs de Cuisine Association of San Diego was founded in 1961, making it the oldest affiliate of the American Culinary Federation (ACF) in the San Diego region.

The Chefs de Cuisine Association offers educational programs, competitions, and events for professional chefs and culinary students, and works with the national ACF to offer professional certification exams.

The Chefs de Cuisine also supports an Explorer Post for youth aged 14-20 to explore culinary careers, the first such in the nation.
